Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Calvary Baptist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
God
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons –Father, Son, and Holy Spirit–who are equal in being, nature, power and glory, having the same attributes and perfections.
The Bible
We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the fully inspired Word of God and without error in the original writings. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine revelation of God to man, and therefore, are the final authority for faith and life.
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life, and died as a vicarious substitute for sinners. Today, He is alive and seated at the right hand of His Father, acting on our behalf.
The Person and Work of The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is convicting the world of its sin and guilt. He regenerates sinners, and progressively transforms them as genuine believers more and more into the image of Jesus. The Holy Spirit also empowers believers for Christian witness and service and gives gifts for the building up of the body of Christ, the church.
Mankind
We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned, and thereby, incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death. As a result, all are separated from God by their sin and are hopeless apart from the salvation found in Christ alone.
The Fall
When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation ever since that time.
Salvation
Salvation is a free gift that comes only by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus Christ and His death on their behalf receives forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. We believe that all the redeemed are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever.
The Local Church
The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that the local church is a company of believers in Christ Jesus; baptized on an acceptable profession of faith; associated for worship, work, observance of the ordinances, and the spread of the Gospel worldwide. We recognize baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper as the Scriptural ordinances of obedience for the church in this age.
Return of Christ
We believe in the personal, physical, pre-tribulational and premillenial return of Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service, and energetic mission.
Eternal Destinies
We believe that all true believers in Jesus will spend eternity with Him in the new creation and those who die without faith Christ will endure eternal punishment.
