Entrusted: A Call to Faithful Stewardship
Drawing from the conclusion of 1 Timothy, we're confronted with two essential areas of faithfulness: our wealth and our calling. This sermon reminds us that as Americans, we are wealthier than we realize—nearly half the world lives on less than seven dollars a day. When Scripture addresses 'the rich,' it's speaking directly to us. We're warned about the twin dangers wealth presents: pride that makes us feel self-sufficient, and false security that tempts us to place our hope in money rather than God. But the call isn't to reject wealth—it's to steward it faithfully by doing good, being generous, and investing in eternity rather than temporary treasures. The message also addresses our calling to guard the gospel message and share it with those in our sphere of influence. We're reminded that God's plan for reaching the world involves ordinary people like us telling others about Jesus. The sermon confronts the modern trend of 'deconstruction' where Christians question their faith to the point of losing their foundation, and encourages us to ask questions within the community of faith rather than in isolation.
Ultimately, we're challenged to align both our finances and our gifts with the advancement of the gospel, recognizing that faithfulness isn't measured by how much we have, but by what we do with what we've been given.
