Mary's Christmas
This Christmas reflection invites us into the profound mystery of the Incarnation through the lens of Mary's Magnificat—her spontaneous song of praise found in Luke 1. What makes this passage so remarkable is that a young teenage girl, facing circumstances that could have filled her with fear and shame, instead erupts in theological worship. Mary had mastered Scripture so deeply that fifteen Old Testament allusions flowed naturally from her heart. Her song reveals four essential truths about God that transform how we approach Him: He is mindful of the lowly, mighty in power, merciful beyond measure, and ministering across generations. The beauty of Mary's response teaches us that true worship deflects attention from ourselves to our Savior. She calls the child within her womb 'my Lord' and 'my Savior,' recognizing her own need for redemption. This Christmas, we're challenged to write our own Magnificat—to set aside our requests and simply magnify God for who He is and what He has done. The darkness Jesus entered wasn't merely nighttime, but the spiritual gloom of human guilt and sin. Yet into that darkness came light, forgiveness, and the possibility of restored relationship with God through Christ's perfect life, substitutionary death, and glorious resurrection.
