One Small Child, One Small King

Dec 14, 2025    Pastor Pete Radford

The Christmas story invites us to notice what we've become numb to—that the birth of Jesus wasn't just another birth, but the arrival of the King of the world. Through Matthew's Gospel, we discover four powerful 'nudges' that signal something extraordinary is happening: an angel appearing to Joseph, prophecies written 700 years earlier coming true, an astronomical event marking the moment, and ancient predictions about Bethlehem as the birthplace of the Messiah. These aren't just quaint details for children's pageants—they're divine signposts pointing us to an earth-shattering reality. The baby wrapped in swaddling clothes was God Himself entering human history to rescue us from our sins. When we truly grasp this, Christmas transforms from a commercialized holiday into a personal encounter with the Savior who came to shepherd His people. The question becomes deeply personal: Have we invited this King into our own lives? The guilt, shame, and brokenness we carry can be washed away by the One who was born to die for every sin we've ever committed. This is the real meaning of Christmas—not just celebration, but salvation offered freely to all who will receive it.
